How to install

Download OpenQbo Distro

Download the OpenQbo Distro using one of the links above for the version you want to install.

Create a bootable USB

You can burn it to a DVD instead of using a Pendrive, but the Qbo robot does not have a built-in optical drive.

On Linux:

Ubuntu

  • Install usb-creator if not already installed:
sudo apt-get install usb-creator-gtk

If you use KDE include Gnome:

sudo apt-get install usb-creator-kde
  • Run the usb-creator: “System”→“Administration”→“Startup Disk Creator” or run it using the terminal:
usb-creator-gtk

or

usb-creator-kde
  • Choose the source disk image as the openqbo.iso and select your USB Pen Drive as the disk to use. Click “Make Startup Disk” and wait until it's finished.

Debian * Install unetbootin if not already installed:

sudo apt-get install unetbootin
  • Run the usb-creator: “System”→“Administration”→“Startup Disk Creator” or run it using the terminal:
usb-creator-gtk

or

usb-creator-kde
  • Choose the source disk image as openqbo.iso and select your USB Pen Drive as the disk to use. Click “Make Startup Disk” and wait until it's finished.

On Windows (XP/Vista/Windows 7)

Use the Pendrive Linux Universal USB Installer from: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

  • Select the “Try Unlisted Linux ISO” option.

On Mac OSX FIXME - Needs instructions added here

1.3 Insert the USB pendrive in the Qbo robot and reboot Qbo.

1.4 Configure BIOS to use the USB Drive as the primary Boot option. After this configuration, save changes and reboot Qbo's computer.

1.5 On the OpenQbo bootloader Menu, choose Install OpenQbo.

1.6 Follow the installation steps (which are identical to the installation of Ubuntu).

OpenQbo Setup

Change Language

This will change the operating system language, not the language in which the robot will talk or understand.

  • Go to System Settings
  • Open Language Support
  • If your language isn't in the list click on “Install/Remove Language…” button, select your language and click on “Apply Changes”
  • Put your language at the top of the list
  • Restart your computer

Required Q.bo Apps and ROS Packages

The OpenQbo “iso” image does not include the actual Q.bo apps and required ROS packages. These must be downloaded and installed individually from the OpenQbo repository. The easiest way to acquire and maintain these components is to use Synaptic.

Install the Current Q.bo Apps Using Synaptic

1. Launch Synaptic: Applications → Other → “Synaptic Package Manager”

2. Click on the “Origin” button in the bottom left corner and select from the left list “stable/main (repo.openqbo.org)” which correspond to the OpenQbo repositories.

3. Select the items you want to install that appear in the “Package” list.

4. Apply the Installs.

Note: if you want to check if new versions are available, click on “Reload” in the top left corner.
